Warm Cinnamon Quinoa Cereal for Your Flat-Belly Breakfast

If you’re on a flat-belly diet, you’ll appreciate this recipe for Warm Cinnamon Quinoa Cereal. Quinoa (KEEN-wah) is an ancient South American grain that’s technically a seed. It’s considered a superfood because it has a host of nutritional perks packed into one tiny seed. No quinoa in the pantry? Use old-fashioned oats, and this recipe will revolutionize your typical bowl of oatmeal.

Prep time: 2 minutes

Cook time: 16 minutes

Yield: 4 servings

1 cup water

1 cup low-fat plain soymilk

1 cup quinoa, pre-rinsed

1 banana, mashed

1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon, plus more for topping

1 cup fresh blueberries, rinsed and drained, for topping

1/2 cup walnut halves, for topping

  1. In a small saucepan, bring the water, soymilk, quinoa, and banana to a boil. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer until the liquid is almost absorbed, about 14 minutes.

  2. Stir in the cinnamon, and continue to cook uncovered until all the liquid is absorbed, about 2 minutes.

  3. Serve with a sprinkle of cinnamon and top each serving with 1/4 cup blueberries and 2 tablespoons walnuts.
