Flat-Belly Snacks: Smoked Chickpeas

Smoked chickpeas (also called garbanzo or ceci beans) are a yummy and nutritious snack filled with protein and fiber to keep you satisfied. This flat-belly recipe is easy to vary: Like it hot? Turn up the heat by adding more cayenne! Or replace the spices in this recipe with pumpkin pie spice and vanilla extract for seasonal flavor.

Yield: 2 servings

One 15.5-ounce can low-sodium chickpeas, rinsed and drained

1/2 tablespoon smoked paprika

1/8 teaspoon sea salt

1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.

  2. In a medium bowl, combine all the ingredients and coat the chickpeas.

  3. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper, and spread out the chickpeas on the baking sheet.

  4. Bake for 20 minutes. Allow the chickpeas to cool and serve. The chickpeas will become crispy as they cool.
