Grilled foods are fantastic for the flat-belly diet because there’s no added fat. Try this flavor-packed recipe for Jamaican Jerk Beef and Shrimp Shish Kebabs. Jerk seasoning is a traditional spice mix containing allspice, garlic, thyme, hot peppers, cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

Because proteins are filling, you’ll be less likely to overindulge in too many carbs or fats. By making your plate one-quarter lean proteins, you keep your plate balanced with adequate whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats.

Prep time: 15–30 minutes

Cook time: 8–10 minutes

Yield: 6 servings

16 ounces top sirloin steak, cubed 1-inch thick

8 ounces jumbo shrimp, deveined, peeled, and tails removed

1 lemon, juiced

1 tablespoon jerk seasoning

1 tablespoon 100 percent orange juice

2 cups diced pineapple

  1. In a large bowl or resealable plastic bag, marinate the steak and shrimp in the lemon juice, jerk seasonings, and orange juice for 15 to 30 minutes.

  2. On wooden skewers, line the steak and pineapple together and the shrimp separately.

  3. Grill the steak and pineapple on high heat for 7 to 10 minutes; grill the shrimp for 2 minutes, until cooked through.
