How to Add Pictures to Evernote Notes

By David E. Y. Sarna

Most people have adopted their phones as their primary cameras because — let’s face it — people are rarely without their cellphones. Evernote enables you to use your camera phone to add photos to notes.

For example, if you’re in a grocery store and find an item that you think would work for a recipe but aren’t sure, simply snap a picture of the item in Evernote, and voilà — you have an image to refer to when you need it.

Although the iPod touch isn’t a phone, it can do almost anything that the iPhone can do, so the iPhone instructions work for the iPod touch, too.

The following method saves attachments to your note. When you open Evernote, you see the new note you just created from your mobile device. Attachments and their extensions are added to new notes.

To add a picture to a note on a mobile device, follow these steps:

The Evernote app on a mobile device.

1Open Evernote on your mobile device, and tap the appropriate icon.

On an iPhone, for example, the icon is the circle icon labeled Text; on an Android device, it’s the icon that looks like a piece of paper with a plus sign.

A new text note is created.

2Tap Note in the top-left corner of the screen, and enter a title.

If you don’t change the title, your note will be saved with the title (yup, you guessed it) Note.

3Below the note’s title, tap the notebook icon to select the notebook in which the note will be saved.

This opens up a new notebook selection screen. You can select a different notebook, or you can create a new notebook by entering a title in the gray box at the top of the screen that says “Find or Create Notebook” and clicking the plus sign to the right of the notebook’s name.

Tapping the More link to the right of the notebook name brings up a screen where you can add tags or a location to your note.

4Tap the New Note link to get back to the note page.

The note page reappears.

5Tap inside the content box where you see the words Tap to Edit.

A menu bar appears at the bottom of the screen.

6Tap the Camera icon.

Your phone’s camera opens, ready to take a picture.

7Take a picture.

You have the opportunity to retake the picture if you don’t like the first, second, or tenth try. You can take as many pictures as you need until you’re satisfied or have used up your battery.

8(Optional) Tap the Camera icon again to take additional pictures.

Evernote lets you add up to four photos to your note, so keep snapping!

9When you finish, tap the check mark in the bottom-right corner of the photo preview screen to save the photo.

Evernote inserts the photo into your new note and also saves it in the camera roll on your phone so you can access it outside Evernote.

10(Optional) Tap anywhere inside the note to write text.

Type something that describes the photo, such as a caption or location.

11Tap Save in the top-right corner of the screen.

The new note containing your picture is saved to your Evernote account.
