How to Get the Most out of the Salesforce.com Detail Page

By Jon Paz, T. J. Kelley

The following list looks at a few features on the Salesforce.com Service Cloud’s Detail page that can help you get the most out of Salesforce:

  • Hover links: Hover links are quick links to jump to corresponding related lists that appear farther down on the page. The links appear above the buttons at the top of the Detail page, like Edit or Delete. You can hover over a link to open a sneak peak of the records in that list. If you hover over the link, it will bring you to the corresponding list on the page.

If you don’t see the links, contact your administrator to turn on this feature.

  • Related lists: A Related list is a customizable list display on the lower part of the Detail page. The Related list itemizes the associated records of that object on another record. So, for example, a case Detail page can have an Open Activities Related list, itemizing all the open activities (emails, calls, and so on) associated with that case. Related lists are one of the many ways Salesforce provides a 360-degree view of the customer with minimal clicks.

  • Printable view: You can’t export a Detail page, but you can view a printable version of it in a new window. To do this click the Printable View link at the top right of the page.

  • Back to List: If you’ve been working from a List view, click the Back to List link to return to that page. This is useful if hitting the Back button of your web browser won’t take you to the list but to the Edit page, for example. The Back to List link appears at the top left of the page, below the Chatter feed and above the hover links.

  • Sharing a record: To share the record with other users, click the Sharing button. This button doesn’t appear on all records.
