Optimize Social Media by Adding a Facebook Like Box to Your Website

By Ric Shreves, Michelle Krasniak

Facebook provides ready-to-use widgets that allow you to display Facebook content on the pages of your website. If your website is powered by a popular content management system such as WordPress, Joomla!, or Typepad, it’s easy to find a plug-in that automatically adds a variety of Facebook tools to your site. You don’t need to use a third-party plug-in, however. Instead, you can set up a widget directly from Facebook by following these steps:

  1. Open your browser, and go to the Like Box page.

  2. In the field marked Facebook Page URL, enter the URL of your Facebook Page.

  3. Select the options you want from the fields provided.

As you select items, the preview updates to show you the effects of your choices.

  4. When you’ve selected the options you want, click the Get Code button.

You see a pop-up box that gives you a code for the Like Box.

  5. Click the iFrame tab and then copy the code from the box.

  6. Paste the code into the web page where you want the Like Box to appear.

With the code editor of your choice, open the file for the web page where you want the Like Box to be displayed.

  7. Paste the Facebook-generated code where you want the Like Box to appear on your webpage.

  8. Save the page.

Your Facebook Like Box should appear on your web page, with the options you selected when you created it. If you want to alter the appearance, you can edit the code itself or run through the preceding steps a second time to choose different options.
