How to Connect with People in Jive

Jive is a great way to collaborate with your coworkers. But first, you have to find them. As a leading enterprise social network, Jive makes it easy to connect with others so that your workload and business demands can be simplified and accessible.

To connect with others on Jive, simply click the People tab. Then use the Filter field to type in search criteria. You can search for coworkers by name or area of interest. For example, if you are looking for someone on the marketing team, just type marketing into the Filter field, and you will see a list of users that have listed marketing on their profile. Click on the “card” of a coworker and choose Follow.

Jive gives you a few options for following a colleague. When you click the “card,” you have the option of following someone through the Connections Stream or your Inbox. If the activity of the person has an immediate impact on you, you should choose Inbox. By choosing Inbox, you are opting to receive an Inbox message for any new activity regarding that person. This is a good selection for a boss or other members of your direct department or team.

The other option for following someone is to choose Connections Stream. This is a good option for following someone involved in a project you find interesting, but who may not be involved in activity that is immediately relevant to your work.

If you’re unsure whether you want to follow a person or not, you can always check out his full profile. In a colleague’s profile, you can find out information about current projects, company standing and education. If browsing a profile helps you decide to follow someone, simply click on the Follow button in the upper right corner of their profile. Choose Connections Stream or Inbox.

When you choose to Follow someone, that person is notified of your decision.
