How to Pin a Marketing Video on Pinterest

Pinterest isn’t just for static images. You can also upload videos to promote your brand. Videos have their own category on the main Pinterest page so the people who are interested in finding in-depth experiences or how to’s know exactly where to go.

To pin a video from a video site such as YouTube or Vimeo, do the following:

  1. Select the Add+ link located on the top right of the menu bar of your Pinterest page.

    You are presented with three choices: Add a pin, Upload a pin, and Create a board.

  2. Select Add a Pin.

    You are presented with a box where you can enter the URL of the item you want to pin.

  3. Navigate to the site hosting the video you want to upload, copy the URL from the top navigation bar, paste it into the URL box, and click the Find Images button.

    Your video will show up in the Add a Pin box.


  4. If a snapshot of your video does not show up automatically in the image box on the left side, use the arrows underneath the box to locate it.

    The need to do this step depends on where you are uploading the video from. If it’s from sites like YouTube or Vimeo, you typically don’t have to do it. However if the video is from a blog or other website, you may have to pick the right image.

  5. Select a board and add a description.

    Properly categorizing it by choosing the correct board and writing a compelling description are important as they are what will entice the viewer to click on and watch your video.

  6. Click the red Pin It button at the bottom of the box.

    Pinterest automatically detects that the pin is a video and adds it to the main Video board as well as to your own board.

Be sure to use video in your description. This lets people know they’re going to be viewing a video, and it also helps those who are searching specifically for videos.
