How to Manage Ning Messages and Alerts

By Manny Hernandez

Your Ning network gives you a place where you can conveniently access, read, and delete all the messages you’ve received or sent. You just need to log in to your Ning account and get to work on your network:

  • Your Ning inbox: Open your Ning inbox by clicking the envelope-shaped icon in the bar at the very top of your network or by clicking the Inbox link at the top right of any page. The Messages section appears, defaulting to the Inbox tab.

Messages that you haven’t yet read are designated by a small dot to the left of the row that contains the message details. For each message, you see the date, sender, subject, and a few words that serve as a preview.

  • Individual received messages: When you click any of the messages, the entire message appears. You have the following options:

    • Reply

    • Reply All

    • Forward

    • Archive

    • Delete

    • Block Messages

  • Alerts: Review the alerts sent to you by applications that you or your friends have added by clicking the Alerts tab to the right of the Inbox tab.

  • Messages you’ve sent: If you click the Sent tab to the right of the Alerts tab, you can see the messages you’ve sent through the network.

  • Your archived messages: If you click the Archive tab to the right of the Sent tab, you can access the messages you’ve marked to be archived.

  • Composing a new message: Click the Compose link at the top-right of the Messages section. A page appears that lets you choose the recipients from among your friends on this network or your friends in all networks, or you can enter one or more e-mail addresses.
