Set up Signup Forms on Your Mom Blog

All e-mail marketing providers give you the ability to add an e-mail signup form to your website. How and where you add it is up to you. You want to put your important calls to action at the top of your blog pages. A call to action is simply letting your visitors know what you want them to do when they visit your website.

Experiment quite a bit with where to put a newsletter signup form. Higher on the page and in your blog header might increase your signup rate. Experiment with using one of those annoying pop-up windows in the middle of the screen and one that only appears on the bottom of the page and doesn’t interfere with viewing the page content.

Even this kind of pop-up is not perfect and annoys some people — but it can provide a good balance between getting a lot more newsletter subscribers and maintaining usability on your blogs. The point is that you have to test different placements on your mom blog to see what works for you. Even if you have an aversion to pop-ups, at least test them out to know for sure that the benefits do or don’t outweigh the costs.

Over the course of a year, the difference between using a pop-up or not could be tens of thousands of subscribers. For bloggers who are selling products or services, this could translate into several thousands of dollars in additional income. Most e-mail providers have built-in testing tools that will help you with this, along with tutorials to help you apply the tests to your specific blog setup.
