How to Use Split View on Your iPad

By Edward C. Baig, Bob LeVitus

When you rotate an iPad running iOS 10 in landscape mode, you have the option to display a split view in Safari, with two web pages each claiming half the screen. This handy little feature opens up a new world of possibilities.

You can imagine all sorts of scenarios where such a dual view would be useful. Perhaps you’re trying to decide between two cars. Or checking out two dress designs. Or exploring a couple of different places to go on vacation.

In typical Apple fashion, you can arrive at this split view in more than one way:

  • Press and hold down on a link on a web page, and then tap Open in Split View.
  • Two-finger tap on a link. It opens on the other side of the screen.
  • Drag a tab to the right edge of the screen and release.

To exit Split View, tap the x-in-a-circle at the top of one of the visible web pages. The other will take over the entire display.
