How to Hang Wallpaper on Your BlackBerry PlayBook

By Corey Sandler

On your BlackBerry PlayBook, your home page is kind of like your rec room; it’s a place where you hang out while you think about where you want to go next. You can choose to have a subtle, unobtrusive background (it’s called wallpaper) on the home screen, or you can go for something flashy and wild.

You can choose from a set of abstract drawings or landscape photos provided by RIM, or you can use one of your own pictures.

Here’s how to set a picture as wallpaper:

  1. Open the pictures app.

  2. Tap Pictures from the home page.

  3. Choose one of the folders.

    • Wallpaper: Not surprisingly, this is the home of 25 pieces of art supplied by Research in Motion.

    • Photos: Holds any images you have transferred to the storage of the tablet from your personal or laptop computer.

    • Camera Pictures: The home of any photos you have taken using the built-in cameras of the PlayBook.

    • All Pictures: Shows you every image the tablet can find.

  4. Tap the image you want to use as wallpaper.

  5. Swipe down from the top bezel to display the status bar, and then tap Set as Wallpaper.

When you return to the PlayBook’s home page, the image appears in the background. If you want to change the wallpaper, there’s no need to bring in a specialist with brushes and buckets; simply repeat the process and select a different image.

Want to completely remove the wallpaper? Well, you can’t. At least not in the operating system version first released with the BlackBerry PlayBook.
