Crop Photos without an App on Your BlackBerry PlayBook

By Corey Sandler

It isn’t the same as importing a digital image file into an image editing program — not even close — but if you want to make a quick but imperfect crop of an image taken with the BlackBerry PlayBook camera (or one you imported onto the tablet), try this:

  1. Display the image on the full screen within the pictures app.

  2. Touch the screen and pinch out to enlarge the image as much as you’d like.

Move it left, right, up, or down to show as much of it as you want on the screen.

  3. Take a screen capture of the image by pressing the volume buttons (+ and –) at the same time.

The buttons are on the top edge of the tablet.

You’re digitally enlarging an image, which usually results in some resolution loss. But in some situations, this is the quickest way to highlight a portion of an image to send to someone. Here is a tightly cropped photo of a guy on an expedition in far northern Canada, apparently searching for BlackBerry tips and hints on the tundra.
