Create Your Own Wallpaper for Your BlackBerry PlayBook

By Corey Sandler

Although you can select one of your own images to serve as your home page background on your BlackBerry PlayBook, the image might get cropped or squeezed or otherwise changed. That’s because the OS is designed to handle both landscape (wider than tall) and portrait (taller than wide) views.

If you want to make your own image appear properly on the home page, edit it on your computer so that it’s centered in a 1024 x 1024 box; for most pictures that means expanding the canvas that surrounds an image. Make the canvas black for the best effect.

What if you’d like to either remove all wallpaper, or prefer a minimalist black screen behind your home page? In the original version of the operating system for the PlayBook, there was no official way to do this. However, not to worry: you can create the equivalent of the little black dress for a BlackBerry PlayBook.

  1. From the home page, tap the camera icon.

  2. Take a picture of a black surface (or take a picture in a completely dark room).

  3. Go to the Camera Pictures folder and select the black screen.

  4. Swipe down from the top bezel and tap Select as Wallpaper.
