How to Use the Digital Photo Album on Your Amazon Fire Phone

By Dan Gookin

The pictures and videos you take with your Fire phone don’t simply disappear after you touch the Camera app’s Shutter icon. Although you can generally preview a previously shot picture or video, the place you go to look at the gamut of visual media is the app named Photos. It’s the phone’s digital photo album.

Visiting the Photos app

Start the Photos app by locating its icon on the App Grid. You might also find a copy riding the Carousel on the Home screen.

The main screen in the Photos app lists all photos stored in the camera. You can narrow down the images displayed by choosing a category from the Navigation panel.

Tap an individual image to view it on a screen by itself. The icons may disappear after a while; touch the screen to bring them back.

When viewing an image, you can reorient the phone; pinch or spread your fingers on the screen to zoom.

Videos appear with the Play icon on the screen. Touch that icon to play the video. As the video is playing, touch the screen again to see the controls to pause the video:

  • The Camera Roll album contains pictures you’ve shot using the phone’s camera.

  • The Device album contains images downloaded from the Internet, as well as images synchronized with a computer. Choose Device from the Navigation panel, and then tap an album to view its contents.

Finding your photos in the cloud

Photos snapped on the Fire phone are automatically synchronized with the Amazon cloud. That’s fancy talk for Internet storage, which is something that comes with your phone.

To view the contents of your online photo album, choose Cloud Drive from the Photos app’s Navigation panel. You see a list of online albums, including the Fire Camera Roll. You can peruse those albums and images from the Photos app, or you can view them on the Internet.

To view your Amazon Cloud photos on the Internet, use a computer’s web browser to visit Amazon.com. Under the Your Account menu, choose Your Cloud Drive. Sign in by using your Amazon account when prompted. You see your cloud storage. Click the Pictures folder to view your Amazon Fire phone images.

Sharing pictures and videos

The key to getting images out of the phone and into the world is to look for the Share icon. Touch that icon while viewing an image, and peruse the apps shown on the list to choose a sharing method. Here are some of your choices:

Bluetooth: Send the picture or video to another device via the Bluetooth connection. That other device might be a printer, for example, in which case you can print the picture.

Email: Attach the image to a new message you compose using the Email app.

Facebook: Share the photo on the Facebook app.

Messaging: Send the photo or video along in a multimedia text message. The image or video is automatically resized, although some videos are too large to send in this manner.

Additional options may appear on the Share screen, depending upon which apps are installed on your phone.
