How to Set Ringtones on Your Amazon Fire Phone

By Dan Gookin

Ringtones can be lots of fun. They uniquely identify your Fire phone’s jingle, especially when you forget to mute your phone and you’re hustling to turn the thing off because everyone in the room is annoyed by your Baby Baby Baby ringtone.

Selecting the phone’s ringtone

To choose a new ringtone for your phone, or to simply confirm which ringtone you’re using, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Settings app.

  2. Choose Sounds & Notifications.

  3. Choose Change Your Ringtone.

The Sound entry controls the phone’s ringtone. The current ringtone should be shown, such as Olympic.

  4. Tap a ringtone from the list that’s displayed.

Scroll the list. Tap a ringtone to hear its preview.

  5. Tap the Done button to accept the new ringtone.

    The ringtone is assigned.

The ringtone plays whenever a call comes in.

When you choose None as the ringtone, no sound signals an incoming call. The touchscreen activates to display information about the call, but the phone otherwise doesn’t alert you. That is, unless you have vibration turned on.

Setting a contact’s ringtone

It’s possible to set individual ringtones for your contacts. That way, you can easily distinguish between regular phone calls and calls from your best friend forever. To make such a change, heed these directions:

  1. Open the Settings app.

  2. Choose Sounds & Notifications.

  3. Choose Select Ringtones for Specific People.

The phone’s address book is displayed, listing all your contacts.

  4. From the list, choose the contact to which you want to assign a ringtone.

  5. Select a ringtone from the list.

It’s the same list that’s displayed for the phone’s ringtones.

  6. Touch the Done button to assign the ringtone to the contact.

Whenever the contact calls, the phone rings using the ringtone you’ve specified.

To remove a specific ringtone for a contact, repeat these steps but in Step 5 choose Default Ringtone. (It’s found at the top of the list of ringtones.) This choice sets the contact’s ringtone to be the same as the phone’s ringtone.

You can also set a ringtone when you edit an individual contact.
