How to Play Movies, TV Shows, and Videos on Your iPod

By Tony Bove, Cheryl Rhodes

Movies, TV shows, and videos will play on most iPods. Fifth- and sixth-generation iPods, the iPod nano, the iPod touch, and the iPhone can all play movies, TV shows, and videos from your iTunes library if you convert them for iPod use.

  1. Choose Videos from the iPod main menu.

Or you can choose iPod from the iPhone menu.

  2. Choose Movies, TV Shows, Music Videos, or Video Playlists from the Videos menu on an iPod classic or iPod nano (or fifth-generation models), or scroll the list of videos that appears on an iPod touch or iPhone.

Scroll the menu until the genre of video you want is highlighted and then press the Select button. A menu or content list appears for each selection.

On an iPod touch or iPhone, the video titles are listed in alphabetical order divided into the following genres: Movies, TV Shows, Music Videos, and Podcasts.

  3. Press the Select button on an iPod classic or iPod nano (or fifth-generation iPod) to play the highlighted playlist item, movie, music video, or TV episode. On an iPod touch or iPhone, touch the title of the item.

The video playback controls work the same way as with songs.

  4. Press the Play/Pause button when a video is playing to pause the playback.

Videos are automatically set to remember the playback position when you pause. This feature lets you pause a video or TV episode in iTunes while you synchronize your iPod. After synchronization, you can continue playing the video or episode on your iPod from where you left. This feature also works the opposite way: If you start playing a video on your iPod and then pause, the video resumes the playback position so that you can continue playing it in iTunes from where you left.
