How to Add Sound for a Scratch Character

By Derek Breen

If you’ve gone to the trouble to create a Scratch character, such as a fantasy animal like a hippogriff, you’ll want to be able to give your creature a voice. You will choose a sound from the Sounds Library and then add the code blocks required to play the sound each time you click the spacebar.

  1. Click the Sounds tab.

  2. Click the Choose Sound from Library button.

  3. Click the Animal category and then double-click the horse sound.

  4. Click the Scripts tab.

  5. Add the following blocks and change the values to match.

When you press the spacebar, you should hear a realistic horse sound play. If you want a more ferocious hippogriff sound, try recording your own by clicking the Record New Sound button on the Sounds tab.
