How to Create a Folder on Your Canon EOS 6D

By Doug Sahlin

By default, your Canon EOS 6D creates the 100Canon folder on your memory card where images are stored. You can, however, create as many folders as you want. A folder can hold a maximum of 9,999 images. When you exceed the maximum allowable images in a folder, a new one is created automatically. You can have a maximum of 999 folders on a card.

Organizing your work in folders is a good idea if you work with large memory cards and want to store images from multiple shoots in separate folders. To create a folder:

  1. Press the Menu button.

  2. Use the Multi-controller button to navigate to the Camera Settings 1 tab.

Select Folder is highlighted by default unless you’ve previously used another menu command.

  3. Use the Multi-controller or the Quick Control dial to highlight Select Folder.

  4. Press the Set button.

The Select Folder menu appears showing you the current folders on the card and the number of photos in each folder.

  5. Rotate the Quick Control dial to highlight Create Folder and press Set.

The menu refreshes, and a command to create a folder appears with the next available folder number.

  6. Rotate the Quick Control dial to highlight OK and then press Set.

    The new folder is created.
