How To Open a File on Your Laptop
Files contain data, and when you open them on your laptop, you can make changes. One way to open a file on your laptop is to locate it first in Windows Explorer/Computer (the file management program in Windows).
The Computer window opens. It lists the various storage devices on your laptop — hard disks, CD/DVD-ROM drives, USB drives, and so on.
2Double-click a storage device, such as a USB drive, a CD-ROM drive, or your laptop hard drive.
The contents of that drive are displayed.
3If the file or folder you want is stored within another folder, double-click the folder or a series of folders until you locate it.
The contents of the folder appear.
Depending on how you choose to display files and folders, you might see text listings, icons, or even thumbnail representations of the contents of each file. Use the View menu in the Computer window to select how to display files and folders.
4When you find the file you want, double-click it.
The file opens in the application with which it is associated.
Note the buttons near the top of the Computer window. Use these buttons to perform common file and folder tasks, such as organizing and sharing files.
