How to Create Additional Google Analytics Dashboards

One customization of your Google Analytics Dashboard in the new layout is to create additional dashboards. That way, My Dashboard continues to function as your main quick-look location, and you can refer to narrower social media metrics dashboards for custom tasks and custom tracking.

To create additional dashboards:

  1. Log in to your Analytics account.

  2. Click the URL (domain name) of the site you want to set up.

  3. Next to the [DEFAULT] marker in the upper left, click the Home link.

  4. In the Home window, click the word Dashboard in the left sidebar.

  5. In the drop-down menu that appears, click +New Dashboard.

    The Create Dashboard dialog box appears. You can title your new dashboard and choose a blank canvas to start or a pre-set series of widgets.

  6. Choose the blank canvas option.

    That way, you can add your own widgets and customize your new dashboard to your goal.

  7. Name your new dashboard something relevant to your goal and click Create Dashboard.

    In the next window, you get a chance to add your first metric, choosing from metric, pie, timeline, or table.

  8. Choose which type of metric you’d like to add and set your parameters.

    Feel free to play around here until you see what you like — don’t be afraid to toggle metrics on and off or delete a metric that doesn’t work like you thought it would.

    If you’re looking for metric ideas, you can try creating something like a Table metric for the most popular pages on your site. For this, open the new widget window and select Table. Choose Pages, Visit, % Exit as your columns. Make the table six rows and call it Top Content. Save it, and you’re all set!

  9. Continue adding widgets until you have a complete metrics picture for your goal.

  10. Repeat Steps 1 through 9 for each dashboard you’d like to create.
