How to Assemble Your Digital Film Edit - dummies

By John Carucci

You can edit your DSLR movie in whatever order you deem acceptable, but it’s a good idea to build the movie in sequential order. You can always add stuff in specific places later, if necessary. The simplest way to accomplish this task is to work on a single video track and two audio tracks.

To make a movie in this style, do the following:

  1. Set In and Out points on the clip.

Just double-click the desired clip in the Project Assets folder and pick the desired selection.

  2. Drag clip to timeline.

Drag the clip to Video Track 1. When you insert a clip into the timeline, clips on all tracks move over to accommodate it, so the audio and video remain in sync.

  3. Repeat this procedure and drag next to the previous clip.

  4. Add transitions between clips.

  5. Add titles.

  6. Make rolling credits.

If you’re not sure if a clip works in a specific place, you can do the following:

  • Click Undo on the Actions Bar.

  • Cut the clip using the handle. It makes the cut wherever you place the CTI.

  • Use the standard undo.
