Fusilli with Caramelized Onions is a great meal to make when you’re running around midweek after work hunting down Christmas presents. The crowds were oppressive, the traffic could have been better, and you’re tempted to just grab a bowl of cereal for dinner. But not only do you deserve more; your body needs more.

This meal is quick to put together. Add a bottle of red wine, if you’re so inclined.

This dinner includes:

  • Fusilli with Caramelized Onions

  • A basic salad

  • Bread and cheese

  • Fresh fruit

To make this quick pasta dinner, print out this shopping list before you go to the grocery store so you’ll have everything on hand:

  • 2 ripe pears or other fresh fruit for dessert

  • 1 small head butter lettuce

  • 1 small head red or green leaf lettuce

  • 1 small head romaine lettuce

  • 1/2-pound wedge of cheese, your choice

  • 1/2 pound fusilli pasta

  • 1 French baguette

  • 1/4 cup chopped kalamata olives

  • 1/4 cup dry vermouth

You may already have these items in your pantry, but check to make sure you have enough:

  • Garlic

  • Onions

  • Extra-virgin olive oil

  • Balsamic vinegar

  • Dijon mustard

  • Thyme
