How to Use Dropbox on the Samsung Galaxy S 5

By Bill Hughes

Suppose you’re writing the great American novel on your PC, but then you want to put it on your Samsung Galaxy S 5 phone so you can review it and maybe make some minor edits. Assuming you have a Dropbox account and the app on your phone, the first thing you do is move the file to your Dropbox server from your PC.

This is what Dropbox looks like on your desktop PC.

This should look familiar. Here are the six easy steps to view and edit this document on your phone:

  1. Tap the Dropbox icon.

Doing so brings up the Drobbox screen.

  2. On this page, tap the folder icon that represents the folder containing the desired file.

In this case, it is found in the folder that says The Great American Novel.

  3. Tap the filename to open the file.

This shows you what the file looks like so far.

  4. Read and/or edit the file as desired.

  5. When you’re done, tap the Word icon.

Doing so brings up options, including Save. Don’t forget to save your work!

  6. Tap Save.

This saves any changes you’ve made back to the file — which is stored on Dropbox and can be accessed anywhere you are able to open Dropbox.

This process works with any Microsoft Office file format. It works with cloud servers other than Dropbox too. It can work the same way with your VPN at the office. The tools are there for you to use.
