The eBay for Gear App - dummies

By Eric Butow

The eBay for Gear app is one of those apps that require the installation of a companion app on your smartphone. What’s more, that smartphone needs to be an Android smartphone. If you’re undaunted at this point, here’s how to install eBay for your Gear S2:

  1. In the watch screen on the Gear S2, press the Home button.
    The Apps screen opens.
  2. Swipe from right to left on the screen until you see the third page in the Apps screen.
The Music Player app icon is selected on the screen by default.
  3. Tap the Get More Apps icon.
The icon appears at the 11 o’clock position on the screen.
  4. In the Galaxy Apps screen on your smartphone, tap Top Free.
The Top Free link appears in the dark-gray section bar above the list of featured Gear apps.
  5. Swipe upward in the screen until you see eBay for Gear; then tap eBay for Gear in the list.
The Details screen opens and shows information about the eBay for Gear app.
  6. Tap the blue Install button on the screen.
After the Galaxy Apps app installs the eBay for Gear app on your Gear S2, the eBay for Gear window appears on the smartphone screen.
  7. Tap OK.
The Google Play Store window open and displays the eBay for Gear Companion app details page.
  8. Tap Install.
The eBay for Gear Companion permissions window appears.
  9. Tap Accept.
After the Google Play Store app installs the eBay for Gear Companion app, the eBay for Gear Companion app details screen appears again.
  10. Tap Open.
The introductory eBay for Gear screen appears.
  11. Tap the blue Agree & Continue button.
The blue Sign In button appears at the bottom of the screen.
  12. Tap Sign In.
    The login screen appears.
  13. Type your eBay user ID and password.

Now you can swipe up and down the eBay for Gear Companion app screen, shown here, to view the types of notifications you want to see in the eBay app screen on your Gear S2.

Selected notification types have a blue box with a white check mark that appears to the right of the type name.

If you don’t want to view notifications in a certain category, such as having been outbid on an item, tap the blue selected check box next to the notification type name shown. Tapping the check box deselects this notification.

Now turn your attention to the Gear S2, press the Home button, and then navigate to the Apps screen page that contains the eBay icon. After you tap the eBay icon, the eBay screen appears and tells you that you have no notifications.

If no activity has occurred on your item, you see No Activity in the center of the screen.

Tap the Settings icon on the right side of the screen to view the Download the eBay App icon within the Settings screen. When you tap this icon, the Google Play Store opens on your smartphone and opens the eBay app details screen so that you can download the full eBay app to your smartphone. When you open the eBay app on your Gear S2, you’ll still be in the Settings screen, but you can return to the Notifications screen by tapping the Back button on the left side of the screen.

If you had received an actual notification, you would see a list of notifications on the screen with the most recent notification on the top of the screen. Tap a notification to read it and perhaps perform an action depending on the type of notification. For example, if the notification says you’ve been outbid on an item, you’ll be asked to increase your bid by tapping the Increase Bid icon at the bottom of the screen.
