How to Share Calendars with an iPhone

By Joe Hutsko, Barbara Boyd

Just as you can subscribe to other’s calendars on servers like, you can share calendars you create through your iPhone on iCloud with other people. Private calendars can only be seen by people who have an iCloud account, whereas Public calendars can be shared with anyone with an Internet connection and browser.

Sharing calendars lets others know what you’re up to and in some cases gives others the possibility to post events on your calendar. Follow these steps to activate sharing:

  1. Tap Calendar on the Home screen.

  2. Tap the Calendars button at the bottom.

  3. Tap the red info button to the right of the calendar you want to share. It must be an iCloud or Microsoft Exchange calendar

Tap Edit→Add Calendar if you want to create a new calendar, and then tap Done.

  4. To share the calendar with one or more specific persons, tap Add Person.

An Add Person message screen opens; it looks like an e-mail message.

  5. Type in the name of the person you want to share the calendar with or tap the plus sign to choose someone from your Contacts list.

Add as many names as you wish.

  6. Tap Add.

The Edit Calendar screen appears and the name or names of the people you share with appear in the Shared With list.

  7. Tap View and Edit to grant or remove calendar editing privileges to the person.

  8. Tap Edit Calendar to return to the previous screen.

  9. Scroll to the bottom of the screen to find the Public Calendar option.

  10. Tap On to allow anyone to subscribe to a read-only version of your calendar.

  11. Tap Share Link to open the share sheet and send an e-mail or message to people you want to invite to subscribe to this calendar.

Alternatively, copy the link to post it elsewhere such as Twitter, Facebook, or your blog.

  12. Tap Done.
