How to Review Apps with Your iPhone - dummies

When you look at new apps for your iPhone you may want to look at reviews. Purchase decisions today are often based more on what someone else has to say about a product than on what the company says about its product. App reviews can help you decide whether, or not, to purchase an app.

After you purchase and use an app, you can contribute to the improvement of the app world by writing honest, objective reviews and, when necessary, reporting problems. Your fellow app users will thank you and, at least in our experience, developers thank you, too, obviously for good reviews but also for a heads up when there’s a problem.

When you have a good or bad experience, write a quick review or at least give the app the appropriate number of stars. If you encounter a recurring problem, let the developer know. Here’s how to submit reviews and problem reports on your iPhone and through iTunes.

How to review apps on your iPhone

Open the App Store from the Home screen. Tap Updates and then tap Purchased at the top of the screen (tap the Status Bar if you don’t see Purchased). Scroll through the list of your purchased apps, which also includes Free apps.

You can only write reviews for apps that you have downloaded, whether free or purchased. Tap the app you want to review to open the Info screen and then do the following:

  1. Tap the Reviews tab.

  2. Tap Write a Review.

    You may be asked to sign in to your Apple account.

  3. Tap the number of stars you want to give the app, and then fill in the form and write your review.

  4. Tap Send to submit your review.

If you’re having a problem with the app, tap the App Support button, which opens the developer’s website. Follow the links there to contact the developer about any problems you are having.

How to review iPhone apps on iTunes

To write a review from iTunes, locate the app in the App Store section of the iTunes Store and click the Write a Review button just under Customer Reviews. Fill in the form that appears and click Submit. To contact the developer about a problem, click Report a Problem on the Write a Review form or click the App Support button next to the Write a Review button.

If you are having a problem downloading or launching an app you recently downloaded, first try deleting it from your iPhone and installing it again. If that doesn’t work and you want to report a problem to Apple, go into your purchase history from Store→View Account.

Click See All in the Purchase History section and then click the arrow to the left of the app that’s giving you trouble. Click Report a Problem and then follow the onscreen instructions.
