How to Customize Individual App Settings on Your iPhone

By Dwight Spivey

Some apps (short for applications) come preinstalled on your iPhone, such as Contacts and TV. But you can choose from a world of other apps out there for your iPhone, some for free (such as Facebook) and some for a price (typically, ranging from 99 cents to about $10, though some can top out at much steeper prices).

Apps range from games to financial tools (such as loan calculators) to apps that help you when you’re planning or taking a trip. There are still more apps that are developed for use by private entities, such as hospitals and government agencies.

Some apps allow you to customize their settings via the Settings app. This is typically to let you tell an app how you’d like to interact with it, as opposed to it telling you what to do all the time.

  1. To see a list of apps that you can customize settings for, tap the Settings app on your Home screen.
  2. Swipe down the screen until you see the names of apps you’ve installed.
  3. Tap the name of an app to see the features that you can customize.
