Five Tips for Managing Your Photos in Windows 8

By Andy Rathbone

You probably have tons of photos taking up space on your hard drive. The good news is that Windows 8 makes organizing and managing your photos easier than ever before.

Organize photos in folders

When adding photos in Windows 8, remember that Windows 8 offers more control than earlier Windows versions, letting you group your camera’s photo sessions into different folders, each named after the event.

Browse photos with the Photos app

The Start screen’s Photos app lists your photo storage areas from your PC’s Pictures library, as well as your online storage areas.

Back up your photos as well as your documents

Be sure to back up your digital photos to a portable hard drive or another backup method. If they’re not backed up, you’ll lose your photos if your PC’s hard drive crashes.

Camera app security

When you’re taking photos with the Camer app, remember that as a security precaution, Windows asks permission to turn on your camera.

Printing photos the better, cheaper way

Most photo developers print digital photos with much better quality paper and ink than your own printer can accomplish. Photo developers also often cost less than printing photos yourself does.
