Delete or Edit Contacts on Your Windows 8 Tablet’s People App
As your social and professional relationships change, the People app on your Windows 8 tablet automatically takes care of the paperwork. When somebody unfriends you on Facebook, they simply drift off your People app without notice. Similarly, if you stop following somebody on Twitter, the People app trims the person off your list.
But if you need to edit or delete a contact you’ve added manually, it’s fairly easy to do by following these steps:
Tap the People tile on the Start screen.
The People app appears.
Tap a contact.
The contact’s page appears full-screen.
Slide your finger up slightly from the screen’s bottom edge to fetch the App bar.
The App bar appears as an icon-filled strip along the screen’s bottom.
Tap the Delete button to delete the contact; tap the Edit button to update a contact’s information. Then tap the Save button to save your editing changes.
Tapping Delete removes the person and all his information. No Delete button? That means the People app pulled in his information from a social network. To remove him from the People app, you must first delete him from your social network.
Tapping the Edit button returns you to the screen shown. There, you can update or add information. Finished? Tap the Save button to save your changes.
The Pin to Start button transforms a contact into a Start screen tile, giving you easy access to her contact information and latest status updates.
You can send e-mail from within the People app by tapping a person’s name. When her contact information appears, tap the Send Email button. The Mail app appears, bearing a previously addressed New Message window, ready for you to type your message and tap Send. (This trick works only if you have that contact’s e-mail address.)
If the People app imported contacts from your Facebook or Twitter accounts, you can’t delete any of their imported contact information. But you can add information to their contacts page.
Seeing too many contacts in the People app? Filter out the social networks you don’t want included by fetching the Charms bar, tapping Settings, and tapping Accounts from the Settings pane. There, you can tap check boxes next to the social networks you want to see, leaving the others unchecked.
