Some spas feature a eucalyptus steam room or sauna to help patrons with respiratory issues clear their lungs. If your local spa doesn’t offer this feature, gather the supplies you need to create your own mini eucalyptus steam room: eucalyptus and tea tree oil, hot water, a heat‐resistant bowl, and a towel large enough to fit over your head and the bowl.

Eucalyptus breaks down mucus, and tree oil is antimicrobial.

Then follow these steps:

  1. Place hot water in the bowl, enough to produce steam but not hot enough to burn you.

  2. Placed several drops of eucalyptus and tea tree oil in water.

  3. Place the towel over your head and lean your head down over the bowl, so the towel forms a tent over your head and the bowl.

  4. Breathe deeply through your nose, allowing steam to enter deep into your lungs for about two to four minutes.

  5. Repeat Steps 1 to 4 three or more times daily (the more the better).
