Belkin and Home Lighting Automation
Belkin’s WeMo products can help you control your thermostats, but here you’re going to find out how the exact same apps and products can make you master of your home’s lighting.
WeMo’s LED Lighting Starter Set
WeMo’s LED Lighting Starter Set comes loaded with everything you need to get started in the world of automated lighting — the WeMo way.
The Starter Set comes with the following goodies:
Two WeMo Smart LED Bulbs: The bulbs give off roughly the same amount of light as a typical 60-watt bulb. They can also be dimmed to help set the mood and save your cash.
One WeMo Link: The Link acts as the central control hub for up to 50 WeMo Smart LED Bulbs, so your whole house can get into the act.Credit: Image courtesy of Belkin.
Your lighting is then controlled via the WeMo app. Simply install your bulbs, connect the Link to your home’s Wi-Fi network, and download the app. When you fire it up, it will automatically find your bulbs and get you rolling.
The WeMo Switch
Another option from Belkin is the WeMo Switch, which allows you to control whatever electrical device you see fit to plug into it. The Switch plugs into a standard 120v outlet in your home, at which time you can connect any electrical device to it. You can plug any lamp into the Switch and control it from a million miles away, so long as your Internet connection reaches that far.
The free WeMo app for iOS or Android devices allows you full control over whatever lighting device you plug into your Switch. This is how to do it:
Plug your Switch into the outlet of your choice (or your dreams, if you’re really into outlets).
Download the WeMo app on your iOS or Android smartphone or tablet.
Your Switch will create a WeMo network; just connect to the WeMo network as you would any other network on your device.
Open the WeMo app and choose your home’s Wi-Fi network to connect your Switch to it.
Name your Switch with a descriptive name so you can easily tell which lighting device it controls in your home.
Choose an icon for the Switch to indicate the type of device it controls (a light, in this case), and then tap Done. The newly configured Switch will appear in your list of controlled devices.
Tap the power switch icon next to your device in the list to turn it on or off.
Green shows you the device is on, and gray is off.
