How to Turn Your Fire Tablet On and Off
After you get the Fire tablet out of its packaging, it’s time to turn it on. The 8.9-inch Fire tablet sports a Power button on the back near the top when you hold it in portrait orientation. On the back near the bottom is the volume rocker. On the top is a slot for charging the device; on the bottom is a headphone jack.
On the 6- or 7-inch devices, the power, headphone jack, and slot for the cable to charge the devices is on the top of the device.
To turn the device on, press the Power button. If you’re starting up for the first time, you’re taken through a series of setup screens. After you go through the setup process and register your Fire tablet, you see the Home screen shown here.
The Status bar gives you information about items such as your device’s battery charge, as well as your network connection and time. The list of libraries (Games, Apps, and so on) provides access to libraries of content and related Amazon Stores.
In the middle of the screen is a carousel of your most recently used content and apps, and along the bottom is a grid of favorite apps (the Silk browser, Email, Help, Calendar, Contacts, and so on).
If you want to lock your Fire tablet, which is akin to putting a laptop computer to sleep, press the Power button. To shut down your Kindle, from any screen (except the Lock screen) press and hold the Power button until a message appears offering you the options to Power Off or Cancel.
If your Fire tablet becomes nonresponsive, you can press and hold the Power button for 20 seconds. After the screen goes black, press the Power button again and it should come to life again.
