Browse the Amazon AppStore from Your Kindle Fire HD

By Nancy C. Muir

You can buy apps for your Kindle Fire HD by using the Amazon Appstore. This store is full of apps written especially for devices that are based on the Android platform, including Kindle Fire HD.

Android devices may have slightly different operating systems, and therefore not every app will work on every device.

Follow these steps to explore the world of apps:

  1. Tap the Apps button at the top of the Home screen to enter your Apps library.

  2. Tap the Store button.

  3. (Optional) At the top of the store is Today’s Free App of the Day; tap this option to download a free app to your device.

You can get a different free app every day; just be sure you don’t clog your Kindle Fire HD’s memory with free apps you’re not really going to use.

Tabs along the top of the Store include

  • Best Sellers: This tab displays the best-selling apps in the store, including Top Paid, Top Free, and Top Rated Overall.

  • Games: Tap this tab to see featured game titles. Across the top of the Games section of the store are tabs such as Action, Arcade, Casual, Puzzles, and All Games.

  • New Releases: Tap this tab to see recent releases across a variety of categories. This is a great way to browse what’s been added since your last app shopping spree.

  • All Categories: If you want to see all available categories, tap the All Categories tab to access categories ranging from Photography and Real Estate to Podcasts and Travel.

For new releases related to your interests, scroll down the Appstore home page and view the Recommended for You and New for You list of apps you might enjoy based on your other app purchases.

When you display a category of apps, note that you can tap the Refine button to sort the apps by several criteria such as Release Date or Price Low to High in the Sort feature, New Releases, Average Customer Review, or Price.
