View and Edit Your Profile through SharePoint Online

By Ken Withee, Jennifer Reed

Take the time to update you’re My Site profile — it will pay off. SharePoint Online, offered through Microsoft Office 365, is designed to help users find content and people faster by using a combination of relevance, refinements, and social cues.

Therefore, the more frequently you update your profile with new skills, just-launched projects, recently added colleagues, and tagged content, the quicker you’ll show up in relevant searches. This search feature allows organizations to capture knowledge about you outside of documents you’ve authored and posted. With that knowledge, you and your colleagues can share ideas and expertise to solve problems and come up with innovative solutions.

To edit your profile, follow these steps:

  1. From the Microsoft Online Services Portal, click Visit SharePoint Home under the Team Site link or click Team Site from the top navigation.

A new window opens, displaying your team site.

  2. Click your name at the top-right corner of the page to display the drop-down menu.

  3. Select My Site to leave the Team Site and go to your own personal site.

  4. From the top navigation, select My Profile.

  5. Click Edit My Profile under your photo.

  6. Enter your basic information and change your picture.

If you don’t have a photo associated with your contact information, a silhouette of Bill Gates’ 1975 arrest photo for speeding and driving without a license is displayed — with his approval of course!

  7. Click Save and Close.
