How to Change a PowerPoint 2007’s Chart’s Color or Font

By Peter Weverka

PowerPoint’s (Chart Tools) Format tab lets you change the color, line width, font, or font size of a chart element on a PowerPoint slide. Follow these steps on PowerPoint’s Format tab to change a color, line width, font, or font size in part of a chart:

  1. Select the (Chart Tools) Format tab.

The tools on the Format tab are the same ones found on the (Drawing Tools) Format tab.

  2. Select the chart element that needs a facelift.

Either click the chart or select its name on the Chart Elements drop-down list in the upper-left corner of the window.

  3. Format the chart element you selected.

    • *Click the Format Selection button to open a Format dialog box. The dialog box offers commands for formatting the element you selected.

    • *Format the chart element as you would any object on a slide. For example, to change fonts in the chart element you selected, right-click and choose a font on the shortcut menu.

    • Go to the Home tab to change font sizes. Or open the drop-down list on the Shape Fill button on the Format tab and select a new color.

The Layout tab also offers these commands for changing the color of a chart element:

  • Plot Area: Sometimes the plot area is filled with color. To remove or change this color, click the Plot Area button and choose an option.

  • 3-D Chart Wall and Chart Floor: Three-dimensional charts have chart walls and a chart floor. Click the Chart Wall button and to remove the chart wall or change its color; click the Chart Floor button and to remove the chart floor or change its color.
