How to Apply Slide Transitions in PowerPoint on the iPad

By Peter Weverka

In PowerPoint jargon, a transition is a little bit of drama that occurs between slides. You can apply these to the presentation on your iPad. Transitions include the wipe, fade, split, and flash. Rather than appear one after another, you can make slides fade or flash onto the screen, for example. PowerPoint for the iPad offers 47 transitions in all. After you choose a transition, you can decide which direction to make it come from.

Follow these steps to apply a transition to a single slide or all the slides in a presentation:

  1. Select a slide if you want the transition to apply to one slide only.

To apply a transition to all slides, it doesn’t matter which slide is selected in the Slides pane.

  2. Go to the Transitions tab.

  3. Tap the Transition Effect button to open the Transition to This Slide drop‐down menu.

  4. Tap a transition on the menu.

The Transition Effect button shows an image of the transition you chose.

  5. Tap the Effect Options button to open the Effect Options drop‐down menu.

  6. Tap an Effect Option.

Again, the Effect Options button shows an image representing the option you choose.

  7. Optionally, if you want the transition to apply to all the slides in your presentation, tap the Apply to All Slides button.

To remove the transition from a slide, select it, go to the Transitions tab, tap the Transition Effect button, and choose None on the drop‐down menu. Tap Apply to All Slides as well to remove transitions from all the slides in the presentation.
