How to Use Videos on Facebook for Visual Social Marketing
Videos can be shared by way of status updates on Facebook, enhancing your visual social marketing efforts with diversity of medium. Similarly to photos, videos often generate more views, clicks, likes, and comments than do standard text-only updates. People on Facebook enjoy watching videos, so share them as a part of your Facebook Page strategy.
Sharing a video on Facebook is a helpful way to mix up your content and provide customers with videos that they’re interested in.
The advantage of uploading a video to Facebook is that it’s displayed in your photo gallery and people can view the video directly in the Facebook newsfeed. Users don’t have to click a link and go to another site to watch the video — they can simply press the Play button and watch the video directly in the newsfeed.
How to upload videos to Facebook
Uploading videos to Facebook is relatively simple, but a number of advanced editing features are available as well. To upload a video to Facebook, it must be one that’s already on your computer. In the status update box, click the Add Photos/Videos link directly above the status update box. From there, you’re directed to choose the video to upload.
After you upload the video, Facebook may take some time to process it before adding the status update. When the video is ready, Facebook sends a notification so that you can continue to edit and optimize the video.
This list describes your video editing options:
In This Video: In this text box, you can tag people who appear in the video. Business pages can only tag other business pages that they have liked that are categorized as People, Brands, or Products.
Title: Create a short (no more than 65 characters, including spaces) and highly relevant title for the video. The title should draw people in and entice them to watch the video.
Where: Tag a business page or the location where the video was taken.
When: Select the year, month, date, hour, and minute that the video was taken. You don’t have to specify down to the minute; however, it’s an available option.
Description: Describe the contents of the video. Your description of a video can be lengthy (more than 1,500 characters).
Privacy: Choose who can see your video, such as Public, or limit views to people who are connected to you.
Choose a Thumbnail: A thumbnail is an image of a frame of the video that’s displayed on the screen before a user presses the Play button to view your video. You can choose from a number of different options. Select an engaging frame that entices people to watch your video.
To view the videos you have uploaded, follow these steps:
Click Photos toward the top of your Facebook Page, just below the cover image.
This step opens a screen that displays your photos, with the newest photos at the top of the screen.
Select Albums and choose the Videos album where all your videos are stored.
You may have to scroll down to find the Videos album if you have a lot of albums. You can click an individual video to view it on Facebook. On the video viewing screen, you can find a number of additional options for editing and sharing your video.
How to share YouTube videos on Facebook
You can upload a video to Facebook for a status update only if the video you want to share is already on your computer. This usually applies only if you’re sharing a video that you created.
You may want to share videos from YouTube or other video sharing websites on Facebook. You can share videos created by other people as status updates.
To share a video from YouTube (the largest video sharing network), find on YouTube the video that you want to share. After you’re on the video’s page, copy the URL (the website address) from your web browser; it should look something like this:
Go to your Facebook Page and begin typing your status update. When you finish, paste the copied URL of the YouTube video into the status update. Similar to sharing a link, Facebook finds the thumbnail image to display along with the title and part of the description from YouTube.
Sharing a YouTube video in this way allows the user to play the video directly in Facebook. When the user clicks the image, the video plays instantly, so the user doesn’t have to leave Facebook to watch the video.
