How to Add a Profile Picture That’s Already on Facebook

By Carolyn Abram

Facebook is the number-one photo-sharing site on the web, which means there’s a good chance someone has already added a photo of you to Facebook that you might like to use as a profile picture.

Use these steps to change your profile picture to one that is already on Facebook:

  1. Hover your mouse over your existing profile picture.

The Edit Profile Picture button appears.

  2. Click the Edit Profile Picture button.

The Profile Picture menu appears with five options: Choose from Photos, Take Photo (only for people with a webcam), Upload Photo, Edit Thumbnail, and Remove.

  3. To choose from the photos of you on Facebook, click Choose from Photos.

The Choose from Photos window appears, which by default shows you all the photos that you’re tagged in on Facebook. Page through these photos by clicking the arrows in the bottom-right corner. You can also get to the photos you’ve added to Facebook by clicking View Albums in the upper-right corner.

  4. Select the photo you want as your profile picture by clicking it.

This brings you to the photo with a cropping interface.

  5. Using the cropping functions, choose the portion of the photo you want as your profile picture.

Move the transparent box around the photo by clicking and dragging it. Click and drag the corners of the transparent box to include more or less of the original photo.

  6. Click Done Cropping when you’ve finished.

It’s a small link right beneath the photo. This step takes you back to your Timeline. The new profile picture should be visible.
