Using the Web Data Connector to Reach Any Web Data with Tableau

By Molly Monsey, Paul Sochan

Tableau 9.1 introduced a new feature that lets you connect to almost any data on the web. The Web Data Connector can reach any data accessible over HTTP, including internal web services, JSON data, and REST APIs.

You can create your own web data connector that reads data from virtually any site that publishes data in JSON, XML or HTML formats. And since you control how the data is fetched, you can even combine data from multiple sources.

Visit the Tableau Developer Portal to learn more and to access the WDC Software Development Kit. The SDK includes templates, example code, a test simulator, and documentation.

You can also visit the portal to share connectors and collaborate on new ideas.
