How to View Only the Data Used in an Analysis in Tableau

By Molly Monsey, Paul Sochan

Tableau turns your data into a visual representation, but sometimes, you need to view the actual raw data. Perhaps a result in the analysis just doesn’t seem right, or maybe you’re just curious about what’s going on underneath. To view just the data that’s actually being used in an analysis you’ve created in Tableau, follow these steps:

1Open the worksheet whose data you want to view by clicking its tab.

The tab will be located along the bottom of the Worksheet tabs.

2From the main menu, choose Analysis→ View Data.

This displays the Summary tab of the View Data dialog box.

3Click the Underlying tab in the box’s lower-left corner.

This displays the raw data that’s used to produce the view.

4For a less confusing view that only displays the actual fields that are being used in your analysis, deselect the Show All Fields check box in the toolbar.

This toolbar is located at the top.

5Click the Close button in the upper-right corner of the dialog box.

This returns you to the worksheet.
