Share Educational Material with the Diigo iPad App

Diigo for iPad enables educators to organize and archive web content to share with students and fellow teachers. Through social bookmarking, Diigo enables teachers to share anything they find on the web that is worth archiving. Diigo enables the sharing of content in a number of ways:

  • Public and private bookmarks: You can set any Diigo bookmark listing to be private or public. Private bookmarks are still very helpful for archiving and referencing content, but only public bookmarks can be shared and viewed by others.

  • My Network: You can certainly learn from what other people are reading and bookmarking — especially people you know and respect. Diigo has a My Network feature that enables you to add friends and colleagues and see what they are bookmarking.

    Access your account on any web browser, and tap or click the My Network item on the top menus. Look for the link to Browse and Edit your friends and then add more. Once you have added some people to your network, you’ll see everything they have publicly bookmarked in your My Network section.

  • My Groups: Start or join a Diigo group. Groups are formed around a common theme, and members can share their findings with each other. Tap or click the My Groups menu item on the top of the web browser page, and browse for groups with which you share a common interest.

    Groups exist for everything from teaching mathematics to scuba diving. You can also type a term in the search box, and Diigo drops down a menu of options, one of which is to find groups that are interested in your search term.

    Tap or click any group in the search results, and you’re taken to the group page. You’ll see a large button that you tap or click to apply for membership in the group.

    As Groucho Marx famously said, “I don’t want to belong to any club that would have me as a member.” If you feel so inclined, go ahead and start your own group!

    Just tap or click the Create a Group button on the My Groups page, define your group’s topic of interest, and start inviting members. (Just don’t grow one of those Groucho moustaches!) After you have a group set up, start sharing:

  • Sharing with a group: Whenever you save a bookmarked page, Diigo offers you the option to share it with a group. Select any one of your groups, and your finding will be listed and shared on the group’s page.


  • Sharing in class groups: If you upgraded to an Educator account, you can set up a private group that includes your students. That’s a great way to create and organize class research and to build a knowledge base for your course. You can also create subgroups that can share findings when working on collaborative projects.

The Diigo app on the iPad is an excellent tool for reviewing all the content you’ve archived along with annotations and highlights. It doesn’t, however, currently give you access to the content of any Diigo Groups that you have joined or members you’re following. To access that content, use your web browser, and sign in. The My Network and My Groups menu item at the top of the page will list that content.
