How to Back Up Your Samsung Galaxy Note 3

By Dan Gookin

A backup is a safety copy of the information on your Samsung Galaxy Note 3. It includes any contact information, music, photos, videos, and apps you’ve installed, plus any settings you’ve made to customize your phone. Copying this information to another source is one way to keep the information safe, in case anything happens to the phone.

On your Google account, information is backed up automatically. This information includes your contacts list, Gmail messages, and Calendar app appointments. Because Android phones automatically sync this information with the Internet, a backup is always present. Lucky for you, if you are someone inclined to forget to back up your phone.

To confirm that your Google account information is being backed up, heed these steps:

  1. Open the Settings app.

  2. Tap the General tab and choose the Accounts item.

  3. Choose Google.

  4. Touch the green Sync icon by your Gmail address.

  5. Ensure that a green check mark appears by every option.

When no check mark is there, touch the gray square to add one.

If you have more than one Google account synchronized with the phone, repeat these steps for every account.

You can also back up your phone by using the Kies program. After connecting your phone to a computer, one that has the Kies program installed, touch the Back Up/Restore tab. Place a check mark by the option Select All Items, and then click the Backup button to archive the selected items on your phone, saving a copy on the computer.
