How to Add Contacts to Your HTC One on the Fly

By Bill Hughes

When you get a call, a text, or an email from someone who isn’t in your Contacts list, you’re given the option to create a profile for that person. The same is true when you initiate contact with someone who isn’t in your Contacts list. You can add contacts on the fly:

1Tap the phone icon.

When you first access the Phone application, it brings up the keypad with a blank screen, as seen in the left screen.

2Start dialing the number.

When you start entering the first number, a pop-up menu asks whether you want to add to your contacts in the People application.

Be patient. As you continue to type, your phone tries to guess whose name you’re typing. The digits you have typed are included in the phone number for your good buddy, Robert Baden-Powell. As a courtesy, it tries to offer you a chance to save your tapping finger and just call Robert.

3If the first guess is not correct, to call someone else besides Robert, tap the 2 and see the possible contacts.

If Robert isn’t the right person to call, you can see that there are two people with that number sequence in your Contacts list. However, if you’re dialing a new number for the first time, just keep on typing. Your phone will take those digits until it no longer recognizes the number. Eventually it gives up on guessing.

4When done typing the number, tap Save to People.

Choose whether this is a new contact or a new number for an existing contact. This brings up the option to save it as a new contact or to add this phone number to an existing contact.

5Tap Create Contact.

An empty contact profile will give you the option to add a name. Enter as much information on this contact as you want.

6Tap Save at the top of the screen.

This contact is soon synced with your Gmail account.
