How to Add a Contact to Your Droid X Contacts List

By Dan Gookin

You can add contact information to your Droid X’s Contacts list in a number of ways. You can build a list of contacts on your Droid from scratch, but that method is tedious. More likely, you collect contacts while you use your Droid.

Add a contact from the recent call log

One of the quickest ways to build your Contacts list is to add people when they phone you. After someone calls, you can use the call log to add the person to your Contacts list:

  1. From the Home screen, touch the Phone icon to the left of the Launcher.

  2. Choose Recent from the top of the window.

  3. Choose the phone number for which you want to create a contact.

  4. Choose New to create a new contact or choose Existing to add the phone number to a contact you already have.

The Existing option is useful for when people call you from their numbers that you haven’t yet recorded.

  5. If you chose New in Step 4, fill in the contact’s information.

Fill in the blanks: given name and family name and other information, if you know it. If you know no additional information, that’s fine; just filling in the name lets you know who’s calling the next time that person calls using that number.

Touch the Next button on the onscreen keyboard to hop between the various text fields for the contact. Touch the Additional Info button to add information such as birthday, anniversary, or Web site URL and to assign a personal ringtone for the contact.

  6. Touch the Save button.

Create a new contact from scratch

Sometimes, you must create a contact when you meet another human being in the real world. In that case, you have more information to input:

  1. Touch Contacts on the Home screen.

The Contacts icon is to the right of the Launcher button.

  2. Press the Menu soft button and choose Add Contact.

  3. Fill in the text fields with the information you know, such as given name, family name, and phone number, plus perhaps an e-mail address.

  4. (Optional) Touch the green plus-sign button to add another item, such as a second phone number or an e-mail address.

  5. (Optional) Touch the gray button to the left of the phone number or e-mail address to choose which phone number —Home, Work, or Mobile — you’re recording.

  6. (Optional) Touch the Additional Info button at the bottom of the list to add even more information!

  7. Touch the Save button to finish editing and add the new contact.

The new contact is automatically synced with your Google account on the Internet. That’s the beauty of the Droid X: You don’t need to duplicate your efforts; the phone automatically updates all your Google account information on both the Droid X and the Internet.
