How to Mirror the Google Glass Screen on Your Desktop

If you don’t want to give your Google Glass to someone else to demonstrate it, or if you want to demonstrate Glass functionality to a group of people, you can connect Glass to your computer and show your Glass’s screen on your computer monitor. Here’s how:

  1. Download and install the Android Software Development Kit (SDK) on the computer that will display the Glass’s screen.

You can download the SDK from the Android Developers website.

  2. In the file-management app you use on your computer, such as File Explorer in Windows, navigate to the Android SDKadt-bundle-[name]sdktools folder.

The [name] in the adt-bundle-[name] subdirectory depends on the operating system you’re using. In 64-bit Windows, for example, the name of the subdirectory is adb-bundle-windows-x86_64-20130917.

  3. Double-click the monitor icon or filename.

The ADB Monitor screen appears on your computer.

  4. Connect Glass to your computer, using the micro USB cable that came with Glass.

Your computer recognizes your Glass as a new device and installs the necessary device-driver software.

  5. Turn Glass on, if it isn’t on already.

  6. On the timeline screen, select the Settings card.

  7. On the Settings screen, select the Device Info Settings card.

  8. Open the Device Info menu by tapping the touchpad.

  9. Choose Turn on Debug from the menu.

In the ADB Monitor screen, you see Glass in the Devices list as google_glass, followed by the current release number.

  10. Download and install the Android Screen Monitor screen-mirroring app to your computer.

  11. In the command-line interface you use on your computer, type the following and then press Enter:

    java –jar asm-jar

In Windows 8.1, you can right-click the Start icon in the taskbar and then choose Command Prompt (Admin) from the contextual menu.

  12. Select your Glass device in the list.

  13. Begin using Glass.

Your Glass’s screen appears within the screen-mirroring app on your computer.
