A List to Help You Get Started with Hardware Projects for the Raspberry Pi

By Richard Wentk

The Raspberry Pi is great for doing creative things with hardware. To get started creating hardware projects for the Pi, you need to be able to answer the following questions:

  • Do you know what a breadboard is?

  • Do you understand how the holes on a breadboard are connected to each other?

  • Do you know what jumper leads are and why you need three different kinds?

  • Do you know a little about the different kinds of components you can use to make a hardware project?

  • Do you know what the Pi’s GPIO pins are and how to connect them to a circuit?

  • Can you search online to find a reference pin diagram for the GPIO pins?

  • Do you know how to use Python to work with the GPIO pins?

  • Do you know how to connect power from the GPIO pins to a breadboard circuit?

  • Do you understand how to pick the right power pins for a project?

  • Do you know how to plug other components into a breadboard?

  • Do you know how find more complicated projects online?
