How to Update YouTube Channel Fields for Your Visual Social Marketing Videos

By Krista Neher

To customize the look of information displayed for your visual social marketing videos on your YouTube channel, you can update a few other fields in your profile. To access additional fields, click on your user image in the upper-right corner of the screen and click the my Channel link. Then you can view your channel, and update a number of items on the screen.

A checklist on the right shows your status in setting up and customizing your channel for reference.

While viewing your Channel page, click on the pencil icon to edit the following additional settings and to further customize your channel (the icon appears whenever you hover the cursor over the section you want to edit):

  • Add or Edit Channel Art: You can edit channel art by clicking on the pencil icon in the upper-right corner of the large image that appears at the top of your profile. The recommended size of an image for channel art is 2560 by 1440 pixels, with a minimum of 2048 pixels wide and 1152 pixels tall.

  • Add or Edit Links: Editing links can also be found by clicking on the pencil icon in the upper-right corner of the channel art. After clicking on Edit Links, you can edit certain details of your profile. Clicking on Edit Links lets you edit a number of different pieces of information in your YouTube channel.

The About description of your channel can also be edited on the Edit Links page. Click on the About tab, below your name. As you hover the cursor over the About description, you see a pencil button displayed in the upper-right corner. Click this button to edit the channel description.

YouTube lets users add a number of links to their websites and social networks to customize the Channel page. Here are the options:

  • Overlay First Link on Channel Art: When you overlay the first link on channel art, the first website you enter is displayed in your channel profile, on top of the cover photo. (You can see it on the lower-right side of the channel art in your profile.)

  • Input boxes: Below the check box, you see two input boxes where you can enter the title of the link (a maximum of 30 characters). This text is displayed in the profile, and users can click it to visit your website. In the second box, enter the URL of the website you want to direct people to.

  • Delete: Click on the garbage can to the right of the link to delete the link.

  • Add: Click the Add button below the link to add another website, though only the first website is displayed at the top of your profile page.

  • Social Links: Include links to your social media profiles on your YouTube channel page. You can choose to display as many as four links to social networks on your profile page, over the channel art. To add a social channel, select it from the drop-down list on the left, and add the URL for your profile on the social channel on the right.

  • Statistics: Choose to display or hide statistics from your profile. Deselecting the box hides the statistic. When you’re deciding whether to display statistics, determine whether they add credibility to your profiles. Typically, only larger numbers or older dates add to your credibility.
