How to Track Users on Tumblr for Your Marketing Campaign

By Shiv Singh, Stephanie Diamond

If you choose to use Tumblr as part of your social media marketing campaign, you will need to be able to track your success. The quickest way to see follower activity is to click the dashboard item called Activity in the Followers section of your blog. Here, you can see the number of followers you have. You can segment them based on when they began following you. The options are as follows:

  • Last 24 hours

  • 3 days

  • 7 days

  • Last month

Knowing when people started following you doesn’t tell you anything about how engaged they are, but it does let you know that there are people actively reading and appreciating your blog. Of course, other indications are your fan mail, comments, and likes.

If you want more detailed information, you could add a Google Analytics tracking code. There are also other third-party services that will provide you with analytics. These include:

  • Numblr: Free and easy to use. It provides you with a “notes-to-post” ratio and an accounting of the types of posts you’ve used.

  • Simply Measured: Fee based. This service provides you with an analysis of your own Tumblr blog and also a competitive analysis. The service is a Tumblr partner endorsed by Yahoo!.

  • Union Metrics: Fee based. This service provides a comprehensive analysis of measures such as follower count tracking and the identification of curators and influencers. The service is a Tumblr partner endorsed by Yahoo!.
