The following discussion talks about a handful of setup options that you should consider from the get-go. If you're not familiar with the Canon T7/2000D, here's a guide to its buttons, dials, and other external controls. The lens shown here is the 18–55mm kit lens; other lenses may have different features.
Your Canon EOS Rebel T7/2000D camera offers the following exposure modes, which you select via the Mode dial on top of the camera. Only P, Tv, Av, and M modes provide access to all camera features. The other modes are automatic, point-and-shoot modes, but some do enable you to make small adjustments to exposure, color, and other photo characteristics.
If you're new to dSLR photography, some aspects of using your Canon EOS Rebel T7/2000D camera, such as working with the lens, may be unfamiliar. But even if you've used a dSLR before, it pays to spend time before your first shoot with a new camera to get familiar with its controls. To that end, the upcoming pages provide an overview of external bells and whistles.
The following discussion explains the basics that apply to most Canon EF-S lenses as well as to certain other lenses that support autofocusing. The lens on your Canon EOS Rebel T7/2000D may be different. Explore the lens manual for specifics, of course. How to switch from auto to manual focusing Assuming that your lens can autofocus with the T7/2000D, the first step is to set the lens to automatic or manual focusing by moving the focus-method switch on the lens.
The built-in flash on your camera offers an easy, convenient way to add light to a too-dark scene. But whether you can use flash and what flash features are available depend on your exposure mode. Before you digest that information, note these universal tips: The effective range of the built-in flash depends on the ISO setting and the lens focal length.
Anytime the menus are active, you can press the DISP button to bring up the Camera Settings screen, shown. (As a reminder, the text DISP appears in the top-right corner of the menu screens.) Press the DISP button when the menus are active to view this screen.This screen offers a quick summary of certain camera settings.
Only a handful of the Canon EOS Rebel T7/2000D camera settings can be adjusted by using the external buttons and controls. To access other options, press the Menu button. You can protect pictures and movies on your Canon EOS Rebel T7/2000D from accidental erasure by giving them protected status. After you take this step, the camera doesn’t allow you to delete the file from your memory card, whether you press the Erase button or use the Erase Images option on Playback Menu 1. You can also save time by using the protection feature when you want to keep a handful of pictures but delete the rest.
Your Canon EOS Rebel T7/2000D camera's built-in Wi-Fi system enables you to send photos wirelessly to a smartphone or tablet. Unfortunately, you can't use Wi-Fi to download files to a computer, even if your computer is connected to a wireless network. Instead, you need to choose one of these options to download your files: Connect the camera to the computer via a USB cable and use Canon EOS Utility 3 to download files.
For the simplest camera operation, set the Canon EOS Rebel T7/2000D camera to Scene Intelligent Auto mode, as shown. Or, if you're shooting in an environment that doesn't permit flash, choose Flash Off, represented by the symbol labeled in the figure. This mode works the same as Scene Intelligent Auto but, as its name promises, prevents the flash from firing.
To download, view, and edit your photos on a computer, you can use whatever software you like. But even if you're already perfectly happy with the programs you already use, you may want to also grab the following programs, which Canon makes available free to T7/2000D owners: Canon EOS Utility 3 (Version 3.8.
Live View on the Canon EOS Rebel T7/2000D enables you to use the monitor instead of the viewfinder to compose photos. You also must rely on the monitor for recording movies; the viewfinder is disabled for movie recording. How you activate Live View depends on whether you want to shoot still photos or movies: Live View for still photography: First, ensure that Live View shooting is enabled in the menus.
To switch to Playback mode on the Canon EOS Rebel T7/2000D, press the Playback button, labeled in the figure. The last photo you took appears onscreen, and you also may see some shooting data. In the figure, for example, the shutter speed and f-stop settings appear in the upper-left corner of the monitor, and the folder number and file number appear in the upper-right corner.
In addition to Auto and Auto Flash Off modes, the Canon EOS Rebel T7/2000D offers several Image Zone modes, labeled in the figure. Each mode is designed to make it easy to capture a specific type of scene, which is why such modes are known generically as scene modes. These symbols represent other easy-to-use shooting modes.
Your camera's Wi-Fi feature enables you to transfer files to a smartphone or tablet so that you can easily share them online when you're away from your computer. After sending the files to your smart device, you use its Wi-Fi or cell connection to post them on your favorite social media site, attach them to an email or text message, or otherwise launch them into cyberspace.
